Stroke Awareness Program on World Stroke Day

Oct 29, 2026

G. Kuppuswamy Naidu Memorial (GKNM) Hospital, a pioneer in stroke treatment, organized a Stroke Awareness Program at its premises. The program was led by Dr. G. Manoharan, Chief Medical Officer, GKNM Hospital, along with the administrative team and the multidisciplinary Stroke Team comprising specialists from Neurology, Neurosurgery, Interventional Radiology, Emergency Medicine, Critical Care Medicine and Physiotherapy.

As a mark of hope, a tree was planted in the GKNM Hospital premises dedicated to stroke survivors. The highlight of the event was the participation of stroke survivors and their family members who had identified stroke symptoms at an early stage, rushed to the stroke centre in time, and received timely diagnosis and treatment. Now leading normal lives, the survivors and their caretakers shared their personal experiences and joined hands with the doctors to spread awareness about stroke.

They stand as a motivating force for the public. GKNM Hospital is Coimbatore's first Advanced Stroke Centre certified by the Quality Accreditation Institute (QAI), underscoring its leadership in comprehensive stroke care. As a Stroke Ready Centre, GKNM has established a clear, structured medical pathway for stroke management - from emergency response, diagnosis, and treatment to rehabilitation and follow-up care.

The initiative aimed to educate the public on early recognition of stroke symptoms, the importance of timely medical intervention "Time is Brain", available advanced treatment options, lifestyle modifications for stroke prevention, and rehabilitation services that aid recovery. Speaking on the occasion, the doctors emphasized that early identification and prompt treatment are critical in minimizing brain damage and improving recovery outcomes. The event reaffirmed GKNM Hospital's commitment to community health education and its continued efforts in delivering world-class stroke care.
