Laboratory Medicine Overview

We strive to stay true to our Vision ….

“To provide the best diagnostic services to all we serve. Laboratory medicine works to diagnose disease, evaluate the effectiveness of treatment and to research the causes and cures of disease.

The Department of Laboratory Medicine is a comprehensive unit comprising of seven different specialities, functioning seamlessly to deliver prompt and accurate diagnosis to all patients. Our strengths lie in the fact that we are the trend setters for specialisation in various diagnostic specialities. We were the first hospital to start Oncopathology as a specialized division in the state, and we are the first Renal Lab with Immunoflourescence and Electron Microscopy in the Coimbatore city.

Our vision and Values
Quality, Assurance & Performance

The quality control of the laboratory is maintained by participation in International EQAS programs like the RCPAQAP – quality control program of The Royal College of Pathologists of Australia, and national programs run by AIIMS, NCG- Tata Memorial and CMC, Vellore.

As part of their training approval we have comprehensive training programmes for all grades of staff to ensure that they have all the required knowledge and skills to perform their duties to the highest level. This includes the provision of expert clinical advice to our users and interpretive comments on reports.

Equality, Diversity and inclusion

The Strategy sets out our ambition to be the best place for patient quality and experience and the best place to work. It provides a framework for action focusing on three, interrelated aims which are:

  • Improved patient access, safety and experience.
  • A representative and supported workforce.
  • Inclusive leadership.

We believe that the only way to consistently provide the highest possible level of care is through being truly inclusive, creating the right conditions for staff to flourish and for patients to receive the services that they need, in the way that they need them and in the right environment based on their individual needs.

Quality Policy

The department of laboratory medicine, and its divisions endeavors to provide the clinician and the patient, with accurate, reliable and timely results with highest possible standard.
