Dedicated transplant unit with nurses trained to provide the best post-transplant care. The entire transplant team is well trained with work experience in training both live and deceased donor kidney transplantation
The transplant team consists of many well-trained professionals with a lot of experience in organ transplantation.
Before the transplant, our transplant coordinators counsel the patients and their families thoroughly about the entire process. They also undergo a detailed evaluation by multiple specialists to reduce complications and ensure a successful outcome. After the transplant surgery, the patients are admitted to a dedicated Renal Transplant ICU. The nurses and other staff are trained to take care of transplant patients as 1:1 ratio.
We maintain an organ transplant registry at our hospital. All our patients who are waiting for cadaver organs are placed on a waiting list under TRANSTAN, It is a state government body, and organs become available on a shared basis with patients from donor hospitals.
The department conducts a monthly Patient Support Club Meeting where the transplanted recipients, donors and prospective recipients and donors get together for an interactive session with the Nephrologist, Urologist, Transplant Co-ordinator, Physiotherapist and Nutritionist. Newly identified families can interact with our post transplanted families. We have 98% of good result in post operative care.
We are also actively involved in organ awareness campaigns to educate the public and other healthcare workers about organ donation and transplantation. We regularly conduct talks and seminars in schools and colleges, and various other institutions and organisations.
Transplant: Our Transplant unit has a positive pressure environment with HEPA filter centrally air-conditioned room with an ante room and can accommodate 2 renal transplant recipients at the same time. We have successfully done more than 80 renal transplants including both live and deceased donor transplants with excellent results. We do offer a less traumatic laparoscopic donor nephrectomy where the donor is ambulated the next day of surgery and discharged home in a few days to resume work at the earliest. The recipient is cared for by a team of well trained transplant nurses round the clock with strict infection control practice.
