Biography
MBBS- Gandhi Medical College Bhopal, MP. MD Paediatrics , INHS ASWINI, Naval Command Hospital Mumbai, Maharashtra. Fellowship in Paediatric Immunology, B.J.Wadia Hospital for children, Mumbai, Maharashtra. Served in Indian Army Medical Corps (AMC) and exited SSC tenure as MAJOR. Have been a part of AMC team serving in field areas of J&K during OP-VIJAY (KARGIL) Was a practicing Paediatrician for around 18 years before embarking upon the Immunology superspeciality. Consultant Immunologist since last 8 years, first 7 years in Dept of Immunology, BJWHC and last 1 year in Coimbatore. An Immunologist is a specialist trained to diagnose these presumed rare diseases through specialised investigations and genetic tests to look for underlying cause.
Clinical Expertise
- Consultant Immunologist since last 8 years with exposure to both children and adults who present with Inborn Errors of Immunity that has a genetic basis.
- Inborn Errors of Immunity or IEI are a heterogeneous group of inherited disorders of the immune system, that are genetic in origin It involves management of patients (child or adult) as a TEAM with other speciality who present with recurrent infections with common organisms or infection with unusual organism including EBV associated lymphoproliferation.
- It also involoves management of patients with multiple auto-immunity driven by underlying genetic defect.
- Management of auto-inflammation eg early onset SLE, specially in children less than 5 years, where identification of underlying genetic defect can ppave way for definitive therapy. Recurrent malignancy or unusual age or site of a cancer can have a genetic basis. Similarly, Familial Cancer syndromes too have genetic cause.
- This is not restricted to Pediatric age group as many IEI’s have adult onset.
- Treatment is decided based on the pathophysiology driving the disease process.
- Immunological diseases can manifest at any age and is treatable with specialised targeted drugs.
