The department has a well structured and documented quality control program with both External and Internal quality assurance programs across all the sub specialties. Internal quality control and quality assurance programs are strictly implemented on a daily basis to assure smooth performance. The laboratory also participates in proficiency testing and EQAS( External Quality Assurance System) programs. EQAS programs are accepted around the world as invaluable tools to assess the analytical performance periodically by laboratories. EQAS programs improve lab performance and provide information on accuracy and precision. Histopathology has enrolled in three EQAS programs , from the Royal College of Pathologists, Australia (RCPA), All India Institute of Medical Sciences and Indian Academy of Cytology.

Microbiology participates in the EQAS conducted by IAMM ( Indian association of Medical Microbiology) and the ILQA ( serology) Bangalore. Biochemistry is enrolled in the EQAS program run by CMC , Vellore and BIORAD. Haematology participates in the EQAS program of the Royal College of Pathologists, Australia (RCPA), All India Institute of Medical Sciences and CMC ,Vellore.

Quality indicators such as adherence to turn around time, reporting of critical values, inadequacy of tissue fixation, inadequacy of biopsy material, wastage of blood and blood products, reporting errors, redo and sample rejection rate are monitored and analysed. Strong emphasis is given to implementation of lab safety protocols and continual training and education.
