The department of Anaesthesiology provides a range of anaesthetic , perioperative , postoperative and pain management services to patients of all ages.
Over 5000 anaesthetics per year are administered in 9 operating rooms providing a full spectrum of services for all aspects of surgical, diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. The Cardiac anaesthesia service forms a significant portion of our work and comprises of perioperative care for adult and paediatric cardiac surgery and peri procedural care for cardiac interventions and electrophysiological studies . Outreach services are provided to all patients requiring acute care in the Hospital. We are committed to teaching DNB trainees. We admit 4 postgraduates every year and provide comprehensive training in perioperative patient care, pain management and critical care medicine.
The incidence of anaesthesia related adverse events, modification of anaesthesia plan, unplanned ventilation following anaesthesia and anaesthesia related mortality rate are monitored and analysed as a part of the departmental Quality assurance program .
